Gerald Ambrose Lynch, of Ionia, died Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Heartland 
Health Care Center in Ionia at the age of 82.  He was born July 27, 1927 in 
Strawn, Ill., the youngest of eight children born to Edward and Elizabeth 
Lynch.  

He spent his younger years growing up on the family farm.  After the death of 
his parents he moved to Decatur, Ill. Where he lived with his sister helping 
relatives and friends with babysitting and house cleaning for 30 years. After 
his sister’s death, he worked in the local soup kitchen doing dishes for 10 
years.  Because of health problems, he moved to Ionia in 2001 to be near his 
niece, Joan (Ed) Blyth.  He volunteered at the Commission on Aging and enjoyed 
many of their activities, especially the music program Thursday nights.  He 
loved everyone he met and always had a smile for them.  He was a member of SS 
Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Friends of Jesus.

He is survived by many other nieces and nephews from Michigan, Illinois, 
Indiana and Arizona and two first cousins in Illinois.

A mass of Christian burial will be at St. Rose Church in Strawn, Ill. with 
burial immediately after at the Strawn Cemetery.  A memorial mass will be held 
Monday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, followed by a 
luncheon held at the Commission on Aging at 12:15 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, 
you may make memorial contributions to Ionia Hospice.  Funeral services are 
being handled by Brintlinger’s Funeral Home of Decatur, Ill.
