His youth was passed in this vicinity except a year at Lansing High School. July 16, 1901, he was married to Miss Fannie Dodd of Lake Odessa where he resided until July 20, 1903, when he accepted a position with the Otis Elevator Co., his brother being a traveling foreman, at that time located in Indianapolis,Ind. Competing the work there he came back to Grand Rapid where he had several months work, after which, he went to Traverse City and then to Toledo O., where he had an illness of two weeks from an attack of Appendicitis. The doctors urging him to give up electrical work, he located in Detroit in July last, which time he has gradually been failing in health until the middle of October he was obliged to give up his work entirely and from that time on until his death he went down rapidly, the dreadful disease, tuberculosis, having securely fastened its hold upon his system. Dec. 19, 1904, he was brought to the home of his parents near Grand Ledge were he sank peacefully to rest Jan. 10, 1905 at the age of 21 years, 7 months and 8 days. Not wishing t discourage him very little was said to him of his serious condition, but a few days before his death he was talking of his past life, the memory of which was a pleasure and a comfort to him, he remarked, "Well I am not afraid to die." He leaves a hear broken wife and one child Mark Raymond 2 1/2 years old besides a father and mother, three brothers and three sisters, Wm.Q and George of Detroit, Ray and Miss Sarah at home, Mrs Etta Smith of Olivet and Mrs.Alice Ferguson of Oneida and a host of friends to mourn his loss and deeply deplore his early demise. Not withstanding his youthful years he was a model husband and father, always thoughtful for his family's comforts and in him they lose a most devoted loving and faithful husband. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining always so thankful for every little thing that was done for him during his sickness. His funeral was held at the Potterville Methodist Church, Friday, at eleven o'clock, Rev. Wilcox of Lake Odessa preaching the funeral sermon. Interment was made in the Potterville Cemetery.
