January 29, 2023 Excerpts from Grand Rapids Obituary FREDERICK G. LYONS Died Sunday January 22, 2023 of Rockford, Michigan Born November 12, 1942 in Lansing,Mich. to Ward and Dorris (Havens) Lyons. Married Kathryn M.(Stoner) Richardson in Greenville,Mich. on August 11, 2001. Attended Grand Rapids Community College & obtained his Associates Degree. Was employed in Home Improvement Sales. After graduating from Ionia High School in Class of 1960 he auditioned on trumpet for the Navy School of Music. He served as a Navy Musician from 1960 to 1963 and in the Navy Reserves from 1963 to 1966. He enjoyed attending the Navy Musicians Association reunions in Virginia Beach. Was a member of the Comstock Park American Legion. Participated in the Ionia Community Band, the Scottville Clown Band, the Danish Festival Band in Greenville,MI and Saranac S.A.M.S Fred & Kathy loved boating and gardening at their cottage on Long Lake in Fenwick, Michigan. They enjoyed trips to Indian Rocks Beach, in Florida for the month of March. They enjoyed watching most of the grandkids sports, & Grace as she plays Rockford's Varsity girls basketball. Fred loved to hunt & fish & go to Deer Camp with brothers, sons & grandsons. Survived by his wife,Kathryn Lyons, two sons, Frederick (Cynthia) Lyons, Mitch (Angela) Lyons and their mother Janet (Pallas) Lyons; grandchildren, Dalton, Haley, Trent (Ashley Borrenfield) and Grace Lyons; Taylor(Don) Price, Bailey Sergent, Jourdan (Zack Volkers) Sergent & great-grandson Jack Price; two brothers, Myk (Carolyn) Lyons, Patrick (Julie)Lyons, mother-in-law Versa Stoner; brothers-in-law, Brian (Robin) Stoner & Kevin Stoner. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilwin Lodge at Cygnet Cove 3383 E.Hawley Rd.Custer, Michigan 49405, which is a retreat for veterans.
