Five of the seven children, Mrs. Jessie Jones, Mrs. Edith Toan, George MacGillivray, Mrs. Adah Fallon and Dr. D. D. MacGillivray, were present. Another son, Alexander MacGillivray, resides at Kingston, Idaho, and the youngest daughter, Mrs. Minine M. Tarbell, is teaching at Fresno, Cal., and they were unable to be present. Many long-time acquaintances and intimate friends were also present to pay a last tribute of respect to the departed, who for 52 years had led an exemplary life among them, including Mr. and Mrs. James D. Anderson, who for 47 years were her next-door neighbors. For 40 years she had been identified with the Muir Church of Christ. The pastor, Rev. George Johnston, officiated as minister. The pallbearers were M. O. Greenhoe, Paul Kieffer, Daniel Stoudt, and Melvin Burtraw, officials of the church, and the remains were interred in the family lot in Oakwood cemetery. Notwithstanding the fact that Mrs. MacGillivray had lived to the advanced age of almost 84 years, she had been remarkably active up to the time she was stricken with cerebral hemorrhage a week before her death. In the interim she never regained consciousness sufficiently to converse with those about her who were solicitous for her welfare. She was stricken while talking with one of the household about a picture of her father which hung in its place in the living room. Left a widow 48 years ago, she was confronted with the problem of rearing the family, and how well she did it is indicated by the success they all have attained, four of them having become fitted for professions which they have followed with marked success. It may truly be said that the world is better for her having lived in it. The mother’s passing marked the second visit of the grim reaper to the family circle within a few short weeks.
