Another sudden death was that of Mrs. Bertha Madden, widow of the late Charles
Madden and for nearly 60 years a resident of this city, which occurred at the
Belding hospital at about 1:45 Sunday morning.

Mrs. Madden had been about her household affairs on Saturday and while she was
walking in company with Mrs. Bertha Brown, Saturday afternoon she was stricken
and slumped to the walk in front of the Agnes Ballard home on W. Congress
street.  She was taken in the Fitzjohn ambulance to the hospital where it was
learned that she had been stricken with an attack of paralysis.

The deceased was the former Bertha Colborn and was born at Sand Lake on March 9,
1872.  She came to this city when a young girl and later on she was married to
Charles Madden, who for many years operated a barbershop on Main street, passing
away several years ago.

Surviving are a son, Lyle, a World War I veteran, now in a hospital at Fort
Custer and a granddaughter, Mrs. Lee (Margie) Worrell, of Chicago, who with her
mother, Mrs. Lloyd (Theresa) Bemus of Detroit was notified of the sudden illness
and critical condition of the local woman and who arrived here shortly after
Mrs. Madden had passed away.

Funeral services were held at the Fales funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30
with Rev. Henry L. Rust, pastor of the Congregational church officiating and
burial was in River Ridge cemetery by the side of her late husband.  Pallbearers
were Ben Neve, Edgar Seelye, John Wilson, Ray Ring, Clyde Rowan and Lyle Simmons.
