Maddox Jr., 86, of Lyons, passed away March 29, 2004. He was born April 22, 1917 in Jackson the son of George and Elizabeth (Roberts) Maddox Sr. He married Alberta (Bea) Rockhold March 14, 1937 in Middleville. George was a WWII veteran serving in the Army in the 752 Tank Battalion. He was presented with an award first of its kind the Distinguished Unit Badge by General Bolte. George was a member of the Lyons VFW. He loved to hunt and garden. He was a great dad and always made the holidays something special for his family. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth George and Sherry Maddox of Kalkaska, Kevin and Amy Maddox of Lyons and Jimmy and Carol Maddox of Fowler; daughters, Betty and George Barns of Lyons and Lisa and Bob Limon of Hubbardston; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bea; grandson, Jack Scott Rogers; and sister, Mary Lazarus. Funeral services will be held Friday 2 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. Robert Jourdan officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of funeral services. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to the family’s choice.
