Lyons Herald, 2 May 1901

Walter, the one year and a half old son of Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Magee, was drowned 
Saturday evening by falling in the cistern on their premises.

The accident occurred at about 7:30.  The little fellow, about 15 minutes prior 
to his death, had been sent on an errand by his parents, and on his return was 
seen playing around the house.  His parents were busy doing chores and after 
finishing them looked around for the boy and discovered him in the cistern, 
into which he had evidently fallen by the breaking of a portion of the 
covering.  The cistern is about 5 feet deep and there was about two and a half 
feet of water it at the time of the accident.  The father went into the cistern 
and took the boy out.  Dr. DeVore was called at once and all possible effort 
was made to resuscitate the child, but without avail.

The funeral was held Tuesday from the Methodist church, Rev. Mr. Jewell 
officiating.  Interment in the Lyons cemetery.
