After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, he spent his last days at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Flint on July 28, 1937 to Edward and Madeline (Morris) Magee, Sr. He grew up in Saranac on the family farm on Potters Road and graduated from SS. Peter and Paul School. In 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Patsy) Grace. Their 48 years of marriage have been a devoted example to their children and friends. Mike worked at General Motors Diesel and Handleman Drugs before moving to Ludington to open Uptown Discount in 1964. Their store was a fixture on Ludington Avenue for years, servicing many loyal customers. After closing the store in 1986, he was employed by the Mason-Lake Intermediate School District. He retired from the ISD in 1998 where he was loved and admired by the special students who rode his bus. Mike enjoyed so many things. Golf became his favorite sport. There was nothing better than a four-some on a sunny summer afternoon. He loved sitting in the stands watching his children, and later, his grandchildren participate in a wide variety of athletic competitions. Actually, anything his grandchildren attempted was a source of great delight. He was a faithful member of St. Simon's Church, a fourth degree Knight of good standing in the Father Marquette council of the Knights of Columbus and was an active member of Lincoln Hills Golf Club for more than 20 years, having also served on their board of directors. He belonged to the Elks, Eagles, Jaycees, and was a past board member of the Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife, Patsy; their six children, Michael, Jr. (Rebecca) of Bay City, Steven (Dolores) of Ludington, Gregory (Karen) of Ludington, Jeffery (Julie) of South Bend, Ind., Karen (Gregory) Wessendorf of Portage and Colleen (Douglas) Duthler of Grand Rapids; 20 grandchildren, Michael III, Sarah, Matthew and Joshua Magee; Jennifer (Phillip) Diol, Trisha and Kelly Magee; Mallory and Ronni Magee; Ryan, Rylee, Torey, Madeline, Meghan, Shafer and Thomas Magee; Lyndsey and Logan Wessendorf; Sean and Kendra Duthler; and one incredibly special great grandson, Jackson Steven Diol. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Patrick (Phyllis) Magee of Ludington, James (Linda) Magee of Shelbyville, John (Leslie) Magee of Saranac, Helen (Joseph) Sutton of Lake City, Jane (Lionel) Haskins of Lake City, Susan (Terry) Baie of Apopka, Fla., Julie (Harold) Hull of Ionia, Desi Hall of Belding; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edward of Ionia, and a son, Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations in Mike's memory to Ludington Area Catholic Schools or Hospice of Mason County.
