Gerry was born May 26, 1946, in Belding, the son of Wendell W. and Ardith E. Olmstead Magers. He graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1964 and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. Gerry graduated from Central Michigan University and later received his master’s degree from Lindenwood University. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, the Rainbow Middle Lake Association Board and also served on the review board for Pine Township. In earlier years he worked briefly as a corrections officer at the prison in Ionia and co-owned the Lyons Bar and Party Store with Wayne Babcock. Gerry retired from Electrolux in 1996 and later from Emerson Motors of St. Louis, Mo., in 2004. Gerry enjoyed golf, reading and swimming and was very active politically having worked very hard for the election of Mike Huckleberry as our representative. He was a genuine and sincere individual and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was married on Sept. 28, 1968, at St. Mary’s to Anne Marie Albert and she survives along with their children, Charlie Magers and special friend, Chris Sullivan of Versailles, Mo., Charity and Drew Huffman of Burnsville, Minn. Gerry is also survived by three grandchildren, Chase Magers, Avery Huffman, Addison Huffman; his brother and sister, John Magers of Belding, Suzann Magers and special friend Barry Strnad of Winfield, Mo.; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Olga Albert of Belding, Peggy and Tim Wood of Belding, Jane and Ron French of Hessel, Betty and Mike Springsteen of Moran, Leo and Nancy Albert of Stanton, Philip and Sue Albert of Belding; and his mother-in-law, Virginia Albert of Belding. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Leo J. Albert; and brother-in-law, Larry Albert. Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with Fr. Paul Salmonowicz presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Belding. Military honors will be given by Belding Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4406. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with a rosary prayed at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, St. Charles Catholic Church or the Alvah N.
