Magirl, 66, of Greenville, formerly of Belding, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at his home. John was born March 3, 1942, and Ryan, Iowa, the son of J. Clair and Marcella Phillips Magirl. John was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Belding American Legion Post and the West Highland White Terrier Club of southeastern Michigan. John was a founding member of the Belding Police Reserves, where he attained the rank of sergeant. He also worked for the City of Belding Ambulance Service. John was married Nov. 9, 1963, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Belding to Mary Ann Hoffman and she survives along with their children, Dennis and Cindy Magirl, David and Lori Magirl, all of Greenville; grandsons, Andrew and Carter; brother, James Magirl of Maquokata, Ionia; brother-in-law, Russell Helms of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Ann Helms; and nephew, Terry Helms. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with father Phil Salmonowicz presiding. Private interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens. There will be a visitation one hour before the service at the church. Instead of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to St. Charles Soldiers Support Group or the Belding Library.
