He died peacefully at the Eaton Community Palliative Care Facility in Charlotte after a series of illnesses following a Covid infection. Jim was born in Ionia, the son of J.R.(Dick) and Carol Magney, both of whom are deceased. An infant (unnamed) twin brother and older brother Bill are deceased.Jim is survived by his eldest brother John (wife Andrea); his former sister-in-law Judy one niece-Dana and two nephews-Aaron(wife Judith) and Kurt as well as two grandnieces. Jim grew up in Ionia and graduated from Ionia High School in 1962. He eventually moved to the Lansing area where he worked in retail sales and continued his education at Lansing Community College, getting an Associate's degree in computer programming. Many of Jim's friend knew him as "Max" (a contraction of Magney). He acquired this nickname when he was still in his youngish gear-head phase and had much interest of racing cars(legally and illegally). As he grew older, Jim developed a range of new interests, from bird watching to visiting art museums, read widely in US and European history, and became a continually frustrated fan of Detroit Tigers. And at the beginning of very summer he looked forward to checking out new camping locations around the Great Lakes.Jim never married but was the sociable guy that family and friends liked to have as a house-guest. The family wish to thank the Eaton Community Palliative Care staff for their excellent supportive care through his final days. They also want to thank Chris Hauser and Mary Brown for their friendship and faithful care of Jim when family were at a distance.
