The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Friday, November 9, 1909

The funeral for Mrs. John Mahar, one of the pioneers of Barry county, was held 
here this morning from the Church of SS. Peter & Paul.  Mrs. Mahar died at her 
home in Vermontville and the funeral party left that place at 4:30 this 
morning for the long drive to this city, a distance of over 30 miles.

The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Mt. Olivet cemetery.  This 
lot was obtained in the Ionia cemetery in 1868 when this was the nearest 
cemetery to Vermontville and the family burial place still remains here.  Mrs. 
Mahar was 78 years of age.
