Nov. 5, 2013 Belding- Charles A. "Bub" Mahar, 86, of Belding, died Saturday evening Nov. 2, 2013, at Metron of Belding. Bub was born on Sept. 19, 1926, in Carson City, the son of John W. and Matilda L. (Adrian) Mahar. He graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1944 and served in the United States Army during World War II. In earlier years, Bub served as a Little League coach. For many years, Bub and Will Youngs were the radio voices of the Belding Redskins football team. He thoroughly enjoyed the many times he spent calling out play by play all of the Friday night football games. It didn't matter if Belding was winning or not, he was there calling and commenting on the team, the plays and the fans. Many a Redskins fan shed a silent tear when Bub and Will retired. He was a past member of the Belding VFW Post 4406 and of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding. Bub was married on Dec. 9, 1946, in Belding to Lucada "Lucky" Churchill and she preceded him in 2005. He was also preceded by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Blanche Mahar.
