He was born on February 10, 1949 in Carson City the son of Albert and Wilma (Kieffer) Malek and grew up in the Hubbardston area. On March 23, 1968 Larry married Linda Essex in Alma. Larry worked for over 30 years as a Paint Repairman for General Motors, retiring from Fisher Body in Lansing in 1998. Larry was a member of Nativity of the Lord Parish in Alma. He was also a member of the VFW Men's Auxiliary 1454 and UAW Local Union 602. Larry never met a stranger he couldn't talk to and always enjoyed meeting new friends. He was an avid antique Ford truck collector; restoring many classics over the years. Larry also enjoyed traveling and snowmobiling. His greatest love was his family, especially his time spent with his grandchildren. Larry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda; three daughters, Bobbi (Mike Swims) Bush and Joe Bush, Jodi (Dan Stahl) Zuker and Greg Zuker and Angie (Matt) Moreno; his grandchildren, Kaylee, Shana, Trent, Troy, Justina and Mariana; also his siblings, Dan (Judy), Chuck (Connie), Albert (Bonnie), John (Dar), Chris (Diane), Bob (Karen) Westphal, Helen (Harry) Thompson, Carol (Lloyd) Reed, Kathy (Lewis) Barone; his mother-in-law, Roberta Essex; sisters- in-law, Judy (Cleo) Schelgal, Deb (Tim) Tice and Sandy Essex; brothers-in-law, Walt (Bev) Essex and Jim Essex; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joe Malek; granddaughter, Jillyan Smith; brothers, David and Clare; a sister, Wilma Jones; his father-in- law, James Essex; and brothers-in-law, Keith Essex and Verlin Jones. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Nativity of the Lord Parish in Alma with Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home in Alma is handling funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family.
