He moved with his parents to Hillsdale county, Michigan when he was a small boy. He worked with his father on the farm until he was twenty-one years of age, at which time he heard his country's call. He enlisted in Co. E 4th Michigan Infantry, June 20th, 1861. He served for three years in the Army of the Potomac. hen visited his old home, after which he was employed by his country in construction work. When the was was over he again eturned to Hillsdale couty. He was married to Mary A.Titus, Feb.20, 1868. they located on the old farm of the father. They moved from Hillsdale county to Eaton county in 1875, residing there until 1888 when they moved to Lake Odessa, being one of the first families to locate in the village. He was a member of the V.O. Britz Post number 382. He not only took interest in the local G.A.R. work but in all phrases of the work having received honors abroad as well as at home, also the Relief Corps work. He was a loyal member of the United Brethren church, proving faithful until death. He passed away Sept 25th age 77 years, 2 months, and 25 days. The relatives from abroad present at the funeral were Mrs M.M. Titus and Mrs A.M. Davis of Hillsdale Mr and Mrs C.F.Titus of Allen, Mr and Mrs H.C Ward and daughter and Mr and Mrs F.M Howe all of Lansing, Mr and Mrs M.M Johnson and Mr and Mrs Bentley and son of Williamston and Mrs E. E Ward of Perry. The old acquaintances from away were Mr and Mrs.Wingent and three children of Pottersville, T.B. Burtch of Flint, Mr and Mrs Potter of Mulliken and Mr and Mrs Bert Hite of Spring Lake. CARD OF THANKS I wish to thank my many friends and neighbors for the sympathy and helpfulness given me during the death and burial of my husband, also the music furnished.
