The Ionia Daily Standard, Thursday, April 26, 1917

Martin Malone received word on Wednesday evening that his son Bert was 
critically ill with pneumonia, in hospital in Detroit, and left for that place 
on early morning train.  A telegram was received here at 7:00 o’clock this 
morning that the patient had died.  Deceased was 36 years old, and was 
employed at the Ferrey hotel in Detroit.  He died at Mercy Hospital in that 
city after only a few days’ illness.  He is survived by his father, Mark 
Malone, a sister, Mrs. Rev. Monks, and brother, John Malone, all of this 
city.  It is expected that Mark Malone, who went to Detroit this morning, will 
return tonight with the body.  The funeral announcement will be made later.
