Pauline was born May 14, 1916, in Otisco Township, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Breuer Laux. Pauline was a longtime school teacher, having taught at many of the one-room schoolhouses in the Belding area, later teaching at Grattan and retiring from Lowell Public Schools. She was a member of the Grattan Historical Society, Retired Teachers Association, Belding Gardeners, Literary Guild, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society of St. Patrick’s Church. She was married April 18, 1942, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Miriam, to Thomas J. “Joe” Malone. Pauline was also preceded by her husband on Aug. 13, 1980; son, Richard “Dickie” in 1960; grandson, Liam Duffy in 2004; two infant grandchildren; four brothers, Ed, Clarence, Ted and Art Laux; and sister, Regina Mason. Pauline is survived by her children, Thomas and Barbara Malone of Lexington, Ky., Michael and Kathy Malone of Grass Lake, Patricia and James Duffy of Ionia, Marilyn and Richard Kropf, Jane and Tim Morris, Edna and Jim Albert, all of Belding, Eileen Malone of Rockford, Dennis and Kim Malone of Belding; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Laux of Fenton, Mary Maloney of Grand Rapids, Donna Malone of Belding; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alvin and Betty Malone of Greenville. Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Parnell, with Father Rock Badgerow presiding. Interment is in St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary prayed at 8:30 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Patrick Catholic School or Hermelin Brain Tumor Center of Detroit. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
