Was married to Sylvanus S. Manley, April 16, 1882. The first year of their married life was spent in Grand Rapids, after which they moved to Nunica, where they resided about three years, and came to Saranac in July, 1887, which place has since been their home. At the age of 17 years Mrs. Manley united with the Alpine and Walker congregational church, of which she was a faithful member and it was largely due to her efforts that a church was built at Nunica, and she was always a willing worker in the congregational church, Sunday School and C. E. society of this place. She was possessed of more than ordinary musical ability and was always ready and willing to use her talent in any direction where it seemed to be needed and any entertainment of which she had charge was sure to be a success. She had been a sufferer for some time but with such fortitude had she borne her illness that few of her acquaintances knew but what she was in perfect health and when it seemed necessary for her to undergo a dangerous surgical operation and she knew her chances of life were slight, she prepared for the ordeal with a bravery seldom equaled. She was not afraid to die but felt that if her health could be restored she could be of so much use to others, who seemed to need her care. She leaves a husband, an aged mother, two sisters and one brother besides a host of friends to mourn her loss. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the residence of Mr. Manley’s sister, 73 Turner St., Grand Rapids, the Rev. Dan F. Bradley of the Park St. Congregational church officiating.
