August 28, 2021 ROBERTA MANLEY Roberta "Bobbie" Manley, aged 92, died August 22, 2021 at her home in Charlevoix. She was born in Portland To Charles "Ted" and Christine Gilford. She graduated from Portland High School in 1945. In 1949, she earned her bachelor's degree in teaching from Michigan State university. She taught elementary school for six years at Muskegon Heights Public Schools. She moved back to Portland and taught for 27 years at Portland Public Schools, In 1983, she retired from thirty-three years of teaching. On June 1955, she married Virgil Manley in Portland. They made their home in lake Odessa until 2009, when she and Virgil relocated to Charlevoix. Bobbie is survived by her son, Jim and er daughter, Cathy (Bill) Silberhorn, both of Charlevoix: two great-grandchildren, Crosby and Keaton; and extended family member Annet Pennards, the Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles "Ted" and Christine, along with her husband Virgil. A graveside service for Roberta was held Friday, Aug. 27, at Danby Township, Cemetery, Portland. The Reverend Dr. Marilyn Danielson officiated over the service. Funeral arrangements were made by Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa and Mortenson Funeral Chapel Charlevoix. Memorial donations can be made in Bobbie's name to:*The First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa, where she was a member, 761 Fourth Avenue, lake Odessa, MI. 48849. *The Care Team Hospice Service, 441 South Main Street Site 4, Standish, MI, 48658.
