Born March 14, 1929 in Orleans Township. Son of Alva Manley and Anna Spanne Manley Arlo fathered five children; Peter, Beth, Brenda (Deceased) Patricia and Michael. He has four grandchildren, Alex,Glenn, Anna and Caitlin, one great-grandson, Nathan. Arlo graduated from Ionia High School, Lansing Community College with an Associate degree and MSU with a B S. degree in Criminal Justice. Was employed by the State of Michigan for a total of over thirty-three years, including combat duty in Korea He worked at the Ionia State Hospital for the criminal Insane, Jackson Prison and the Michigan Reformatory. The last eleven years were spent as a prison counselor. While in Korea he received the C I B (Combat Infantryman's Badge). To receive this medal, you must have a minimum of thirty consecutive days under fire. Also received the commendation Ribbon awarded by General Maxwell D.Taylor and other military ribbons. Arlo served the 25th Tropic Lightening Combat Division and in the 8th Army Honor guard. Arlo was an avid classic tractor puller & drove the red ones (Farmalls).He liked to restore and enhance the tractors, as well as to be able to pull top notch.
