The Portland Observer, Wednesday, August 28, 1889
Last Sunday morning a member of the family of Silas Mann, who lives in the 
rear of the school house on the west side, went to the room of Jacob Mann, 
father of Silas, who recently came here on a visit from New York State, to 
call the old gentleman to breakfast; and receiving no reply after several 
times calling, went into the room and found him dead.  He was about sixty-five 
years of age, and had died while asleep, his head resting on one hand and the 
other laid across his breast.  Dr. Alton made an examination of the body and 
gave it as his opinion that the old gentleman had died from heart disease, as 
every thing indicated it, and he had suffered from trouble with his heart for 
some years.  No inquest was held.
