Aug. 21, 1902 Dr. W. A. Mann is seriously ill at his home on First street, and there are but little hopes for his recovery. Later - Dr. Mann died at a few minutes before noon today, his family being present at his bedside. He was taken sick just one week ago, coming home from the ox roast at Milliken where he was in attendance with the Lake Odessa band. A doctor was summoned. Typhoid fever first developed, and gravest fears were expressed for his recovery from the first. Drs. Horner and Day were first called in and later Dr. Flint, of Clarksville, a friend of the family was summoned, and the three men resorted to every means to put the stricken man on the road to recovery, but to no avail; as some internal complications set in a couple of days ago, when it was most thought that his recovery could be effected, and all hope was abandoned. The remains will be taken to the deceased's old home in Canada tomorrow evening where the funeral will be held. Dr. Wesley A. Mann was born at Strathroy, Canada, December 17, 1857. He came to Michigan twelve years ago, stopping at Bay City. In 1884 he was married to Miss Pamela Adelaide Armstrong, at Mt. Pleasant. At that time after the marriage, with his wife he returned to Canada, and studied to be a veterinary surgeon, and there successfully graduated form the Toronto Veterinary College. After securing his sheepskin he again returned to Michigan, coming to Lake Odessa from Clarksville less than a year ago. To Mr. and Mrs. Mann was born one son, Fred, now a young man 17 years of age, who is left with his mother to mourn the loss of a devoted father and husband. In Mr. Mann's short residence in the village he has made many friends, and was regarded in the highest esteem by all, as he only identified himself with what was right and clean, and in the death of such as he, the town loses a splendid citizen. He was a member of the Lake Odessa band, and was also a Woodman in good standing.
