Dorothy was born on March 6, 1917 to Theodore and Margaret Bengel and attended school in Westphalia. Until her marriage to Fred Manning on September 27, 1957 she lived in the Westphalia community. ---- Mrs. Dorothy M. Manning, age 51, passed away at her home R#3, Portland, Sunday, August 18, 1968. She is survived by her husband, Fredrick J., seven sisters, Sr. M. Dorothea PHJC, East St. Louis, Ill.; Sr. M. Bernard PHJC, Donaldson, Ind.; Sr. M. Marina SCC, St. Louis, Missouri; Sr. M. Agnette SCC, Wilment, Ill.; Mrs. Anna Spitzley, Fowler, Mrs. Theresia Spitzley, Portland and Mrs. Mathilda Malloy, Lansing. Also four brothers, Bernard Bengel Sr., Fowler; Joseph Bengel, Fowler; Edward Bengel, Westphalia and Robert Bengel of Fowler. Rosary was recited Tuesday from the Neller Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Wednesday from the St. Patrick’s church and burial was in the Portland Cemetery with Julius Bengel, Robert Bengel, Donald Bengel, Theodore Bengel, Norman Spitzley, Dan Spitzley and Conrad Malloy acting as pall bearers.
