He was married on March 13, 1905 to Miss Lettie Sawyer of Fenwick and they came immediately to the present home where they have since lived. Six children were born to this union, of whom survive the father, Mrs. Percy Cotton of Hubbardston and James Welcome and Minnie Rowena, at home. Two nieces were also brought up by Mr. and Mrs. Manning. They are now married and living in Detroit; Mrs. Rebecca Elizabeth Sanders and Mrs. Gertrude Anna Bowman. Mr. Manning’s departure is mourned by his widow, his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Elizabeth Manning, at home, the three children and a sister, Mrs. Anna Vonn of Sparta, three grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Mr. Manning was highly respected by all who knew him and beloved by his family and neighbors for his spirit of helpfulness and kindness. He had been a member of the Grand Rapids Consistory of the Sublime Princess of the Royal Secret of the 32nd degree. The burial service was held from the home on Friday, May 7, the Rev. John W. Broxholm officiating, and burial at the Hubbardston West Side cemetery.
