Mansil, once proprietor of The Sunfield Sentinel, died Sunday, August 6, at the Frances E. Williard National Temperance Hospital, Chicago, after a week of suffering from appendicitis. His sickness, though painful and known to be serious, was not considered dangerous until Wednesday, when he decided to be taken to the hospital and undergo an operation, thinking to insure a permanent cure. The operation revealed the fact that the appendix was abnormally large and badly gangrened, making chance of recovery comparatively slight. In spite of this, his condition for the next two days was so favorable that great hopes were entertained for his recovery; but Friday evening a chronic weakness of the liver became malignant, and he sank into delirium, never regaining consciousness. His brother, Charles O. Mansil of Portland, who arrived in Chicago Saturday, returned Monday with the body. Tuesday afternoon funeral services were held in the M. E. church at Sebewa, where his boyhood days were spent, and interment in the Danby cemetery. While Mr. Mansil was editor of this paper he made many friends in this village and surrounding country. After selling the Sentinel to Mr. J. H. Cramer he went to Chicago, where he had a good position and had gained many friends. He was 31 years old, and a brother is the only near relative he had.
