ETHEL MAPES DIED FRIDAY

Mrs. Ethel M. Mapes, 74, prominent Sunfield resident, died Friday afternoon at 
her home following an illness of several months.

Mrs. Mapes and her husband, Harry had observed their 55th wedding anniversary on 
February 11.

She was born at Sunfield, September 1, 1894 and was a life resident of the area.

Mr. and Mrs. Mapes started the funeral home and furniture store at Sunfield in 
1906. Mr. Mapes is still active at the funeral home, while a son, Jack, operates 
the furniture store.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Haker of Franklin, Mrs. Dorothy Dowd 
of Berkley and Mrs. Gretchen O'Toole of Grand Ledge; two sons, Jack and Larry, 
both of Sunfield; a brothers, Ozro Beva of Grand Rapids; seven grandchildren and 
two great-grandchildren. 

The funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Mapes funeral home, Sunfield, with 
Rev. Don Carrick officiating. Burial at Sunfield cemetery.
