At the age of eleven years he came to Michigan with his parents and settled in the northeast part of Portland township. In 1851 he married Miss Laura Everest. To them were born five children, three of whom are living, viz: Mrs. James D. Hayden of Muir, Frank Marcy and Mrs. Emmet Vance of Lyons. The first wife died Feb. 12, 1873. In 1875 he married Miss Mary E. Smith of Amherst, Mass. To this union was born one daughter, Hatty Mable, who with the wife and two brothers and two sisters survive him. In 1864 he moved from his farm to Lyons where he has ever since resided. The funeral was held Sunday from the home and was largely attended. Rev. M. Wilkinson, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, officiated. Music was furnished by Mesdames Ruel and Steadman and Messrs. Strong and Baker with Cora Henderson as accompanist.
