The Portland Observer, Tuesday, July 8, 1873
Mr. George Marcy who settled in this township thirty-six years ago, died at 
his residence on Section 1, on Tuesday evening last.  When Mr. Marcy came here 
this section of the State was almost unbroken wilderness so that he has passed 
through all the trial and privations of pioneer life.  He has brought up a 
large family of boys and girls who are now all grown up and most of them 
settled in this vicinity.  He was in his seventy-eighth year.
