Markham, aged 93, of St. Louis, Mo., and formerly a longtime resident in the Ionia area, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008. She was born June 6, 1915 in Marion, Mich., the sixth of nine children born to Francis and Ruth (Webster) Eschtruth. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Irwin H. Ames; killed in action on the Belgium/Germany front, on Nov. 24, 1944. Her second husband, Weyland H. Markham died on Oct. 30, 1969 of a heart attack after a hunting outing with his son and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Lou (Alan) Palmer of Cedar Springs; a son, Bob (Jill) Markham of Florissant, Mo.; two grandchildren, Tonda (Carl) Hunter of Grant and Matthew Markham; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Taylor Hunter; a brother, Walter E. Eschtruth of Eaton Rapids and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Monday 11 a.m. Nov. 10 at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor John Clark officiating.
