Sentinel - Std - Friday, Oct. 9, 1936

Five blood transfusions, one of them by a 12-year-old Ionia girl, failed to 
save the life of two-year-old George Maroules, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles 
Maroules of Ionia, today.

The child died in St. Mary's hospital, Grand Rapids, at 3 o'clock Friday 
morning after being kept alive for more than two weeks by the blood of others. 
Suffering from Streptococcus infection for more that a week at the home of his 
parents here, he was rushed to the Grand Rapids hospital more than two weeks 
ago where a series of blood transfusions took place. The first transfusion was 
given by Helen Richey, 12-year-old Ionia public school girl, who suffered 
scarlet fever last April and it was believed germs that might still be in her 
blood stream would aid in combating the disease. The child continued to fail, 
however, but rallied following four other transfusions until Friday morning 
when he died.

Funeral services will be held at the Maroules' home, 210 High street, Saturday 
October 10 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Fr. George Nicolaides, pastor of the 
Greek Orthodox church of Grand Rapids will officiate. Burial will be at the 
Tuttle cemetery.

   Monday - Oct. 12, 1936
The funeral services for little George Maroules were held Saturday afternoon, 
October 10, from the Maroules home, 310 High street. Rev. Fr. Nicolaides, 
pastor of the Greek Orthodox church in Grand Rapids, read the services. 
Interment was in the family lot Tuttle cemetery.
