Marquette, 53, Marquette road, died unexpectedly at Ionia County Memorial hospital Tuesday evening after being admitted for treatment of a heart attack. Born in Easton township, August 9, 1917, he was a son of John and Ada Wilson Marquette and a lifelong resident of the township. As a child he attended Haynor school and Ionia high school. After high school he sought work with Ionia Manufacturing Co. then later was employed by Briggs Manufacturing in Detroit where he married Bertha Roberts, March 19, 1942. A couple of months later he entered military service on June 2, 1942, and while in Central Europe served as an anti-tank gun commander. He was a member of the Amvets and American Legion. Following his separation from military service in September 1945, he moved to the present farm on Marquette road in Easton township, where, in addition to operating a farm, he also was employed by a concrete block firm and road construction contractors. At the beginning of 1969, he accepted employment with Ionia’s newest employer, Integral Engineering where he was working at time of death. Surviving besides his wife Bertha are two daughters, Mrs. Elwin Hall of Ionia, and Mrs. Robert Barker of Lansing; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry Selleck of Ionia and Mrs. Genevieve Dolphin of Washington state. Also surviving are five grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established for Zion United Methodist church. Services will be at Boynton-Leddick funeral home at 1 p.m. October 2, the Rev. Chester Erickson of Zion United Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Easton cemetery.
