Ionia Standard - Fri. April 17, 1896


Catherine Marquette was born in Germany, November 9, 1803, and died April 8, 
1896, aged 92 years, 5 months.  Her husband died in Germany about thirty-seven 
years ago; her son, John B., their only child, came to this country about forty 
years ago. Soon after his father died he went to Germany and brought his mother 
to this country, and cared for her until death removed her from his care. They 
may well be numbered among the pioneers of Easton, Ionia Co. this son, now past 
75 years old, has the historical record of a mother nearly one hundred years 
old. The body now rests in the beautiful resting place for the dead, Highland 
Park cemetery. The funeral was held on Thursday, at residence, services being 
conducted by Rev. D.H. Shelly.
