Marquette, life long and widely known resident of Ionia county, died at his home, 221 N. Dexter street, Tuesday evening, June 6, after more than two years of ill health. Mr. Marquette, son of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Marquette, was born in Easton township, June 19, 1864, and in two weeks would have observed his eightieth birthday anniversary. As a boy he attended the Little Grove school in Easton, the Castel school in Bushnell and later attended Ionia city schools. For several years he operated a meat market in Ionia and bought stock throughout Ionia county. For eight years he was deputy sheriff, serving under Mark Hoppough and Edward Lowery, and for the past fourteen years he had been Ionia county school attendance officer. Active in Masonic circles, Mr. Marquette was a member of the Blue Lodge, No. 36, Royal Arch Masons, Ionia Knight Templar Commandry No. 11, and Ionia Elks lodge. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Wright, of Lansing, and a brother, Fred Marquette, of Durand. Mrs. Marquette, the former Merida Underwood, died July 4, 1935. Rev. F. G. Dunbar will conduct the funeral service which will be held from his late residence, N. Dexter street, at two o’clock Friday afternoon, June 9. Burial will be in Highland Park mausoleum beside his wife.
