His death is attributed to malaria, contracted while he was in South America some years ago with the navy. He came here in June from Portsmouth, N. H., where his wife and baby died May 16, reaching his father’s home June 13. On June 18 he could not leave his bed, and he grew steadily worse from that time on. He was about seven years with the navy, having shipped twice. The first time was the same time that Frank Kidd enlisted and circumnavigated the globe. It was at this time that Mr. Marshall’s vessel was kept for some time in South America, but it went around the world afterward. The first enlistment was for four years and second for three. During his second term he was on the vessel of the secretary of war and participated in the great naval demonstration at New York during Taft’s administration. He first came to Ionia with his father fifteen years ago, but has been here only for visits since joining the navy.
