H. Peabody’s Office. Driver Also Hurt. Monday afternoon a crowd soon gathered in front of Dr. C. H. Peabody’s office when a car bringing the injured from a collision on M-50 drove up. The first person to be attended was Ivestan Martin, a man 79 years of age who was dying in the car that brought him here. While he was being treated Adam Baitinger with his little son Vernon 7 years old in his arms, both injured, was looking for another physician. Dr. J. W. Robinson had just gone on a call and Dr. M. A. Hoffs was out of town on his vacation. Mr. Martin soon passed away and then Mr. Baitinger and son were given attention. It was thought the child had internal trouble or a rib broken, also there was a bad bruise on the head. He was afterward taken to Pennock hospital where he is being closely observed and attended. Mr. Baitinger received cuts and bruises and received injuries to his back. It is thought, however, he has no permanent injury. The accident took place at the intersection of highways M-50 and M-43. The Baitinger car was traveling north on M-43 and halted before attempting to cross M-50. A cornfield obscured the view and the small car was in the center of the intersection when it was hit broadside by Mr. Pierce in the truck, which was moving east. The body of Mr. Martin was removed to the undertaking parlors of Wortley & Baine. Mr. Martin lived with the Baitinger family. He was a former resident of Sunfield. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Portland. He leaves a son at Mulliken and a daughter at Grand Ledge. Ross E. Pierce, manager of the Woodland Co-operative company, driver of the truck, was unhurt.
