All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net June 30, 2011, 7:06 pm The Portland Observer, Wednesday, December 24, 1890 Eliott Mills Martin was born in the township of Otsego, Otsego county, N.Y., March 15, 1806; was married to Miss Katherine Quackenbush Oct. 12th, 1831; moved from the state of New York to Orange, Ionia county, Michigan, in 1846; then but a howling wilderness, where Mr. Martin, by dint of hard work cleared up a large farm and engaged quite extensively in the lumber business. His wife died September 1852. Moved from Orange to Danby in 1863, upon what was known as the I.G. Frost farm. Shortly after he moved upon his farm, now owned by J. C. Turner. In January, 1871 he was married to Mrs. Alzena Bennett. His wife died May 14, 1885. He still remained upon the farm until 1888, since which time he has been living with his children. He was the father of eleven children, eight of whom—four boys and four girls—survive him. He died December 17th, 1890, at the residence of his son, A. J. Martin, in the 85th year of his age. The funeral services were held at the Council Bluffs school house, conducted by Rev. Mr. Bird of Portland and the remains interred in the Danby cemetery.
