Julia Catherine Martin, 85, of Portland,  passed away July 16, 2004.  She was 
born on February 26, 1919, in Portland Township the daughter of Nicholas and 
Ann (Schmitt) Pohl.  Mrs. Martin was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic 
Church. She enjoyed crocheting and baking cookies to feed to her 
grandchildren. 

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband of 52 years, Julius in 2002; 
grandson, Cory Martin. Surviving are her 7 children: Janet (Tim) Toman of 
Owosso, Stan (Jody) Martin of Clinton, MS, Carol Wood of Ionia, Mel (Jackie) 
Marin of Portland, Gary (Penny) Martin of Portland, Dave (Shelly) Martin of 
Portland, and Doris (Bob) Schafer or Eagle; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren; sister, Edna Weber of Portland. The 

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 19 at St. Patrick's Catholic 
Church, Portland, with Fr. Larry King, Pastor presiding. Rite of Committal 
followed at Portland Cemetery.  Arrangements were handled by the Schrauben-
Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.  Contributions may be made to River Inn A.F.C. 
in Sunfield, Eaton Community Hospice House in Charlotte or St. Patrick's 
Church.
