He suffered an apparent heart attack while on a fishing trip with his son-in-law. He was born in Vestaburg on January 5, 1905 the son of Petry and Cora Crownover Martin. On October 13, 1927 he was married to Mary Price in Lansing. He had worked at Nash Kalvinator in Lansing until 1944 when he went to work at Fisher Body plant. In 1957 he moved to Ionia and worked for Ionia Manufacturing company and its successors, Smith Plastics. He retired in January 1970. Surviving are his wife, Mary; two sons, Royal of Pontiac and Roger of Ionia; four daughters, Mrs. George Moorman of Mecosta, Mrs. Lynn Miller of Portland, Mrs. Delbert Swain of Ionia and Mrs. Dale Humphreys of Ionia; 20 grandchildren; two brothers, Fred of Hale and Forrest of Riverdale; one sister, Mrs. Arla Gulick of Owosso. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Boynton-Leddick funeral home. Rev. Chester Erickson will officiate and interment will be at Ferris Center cemetery near Vestaburg.
