Martin, 98, 934 S. Bridge St., Belding, passed away Monday, April 28, 1997, at Belding Christian Nursing Home. He was born Aug. 23, 1898, in Cullman, Ala., the son of George and Mary Hafling Martin. He was the former owner-operator of Murphy-Martin Ford dealership, Belding, from 1930 to 1946. He retired from Belding Tool and Die in 1968. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and a former member of Belding Sportsman’s Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. On Sept. 4, 1929, in Belding, he married Florence Neveril. She preceded him in death in 1962. He is survived by his children, Jeanne and Ron Hughes of Belding, Dr. Jack and Jackie Martin of Charlevoix; six grandchildren, seven great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Matilda Martin and Margarite Terwilliger. Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding, with the Rev. George Darling officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Belding.
