March 11, 2013 BELDING- Shirley Ann (Johnson) Martin, 82, of Belding, went to be with her Lord and Savior unexpectedly on Thursday evening, March 7, 2013 She was born on Aug. 30, 1930, in Lakeview, the daughter of Chester Andrew and Melva Alice (Cannon) Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death. Shirley graduated from Lakeview Area Schools with the class of 1948. She married Kenneth V. Martin on Aug. 31, 1957, in Greenville and he survives. She was an accomplished musician playing beautifully both the organ and piano. She shared her love of music with many students as she taught music for many years. She became active in the music ministry at nearly every church they attended by playing the organ and or directing the choir. She lived in many places during her lifetime including Washington State and in Spain traveling with her husband's military career. She was a member of Ashley Baptist Church in Belding and loved spending time with her family, especially the children and grandchildren. The memory of Shirley will be cherished by Kenneth, her dear husband of 54 years; children, Kristy (Paul) Beardslee of Clio, Patsy (Patrick) Spry of Greenville, Donald (Karen) Martin of Trufant, Victor Martin of Smyrna and Lindee Garver of South Bend, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren; siblings, Eldon (Ginger) Johnson of Plymouth, Paul (Janet) Johnson of Lakeview, Jeanne (Bill) Hellegas of Naples, Fla., and Darwin (Vicky) Johnson of Haslett; an aunt Donna Buchholtz of Langston; Ken's family including his step-mother, Shirley Higgins of Greenville; his siblings Roger (Deb) Martin of Six Lakes, Linda Boyce of Greenville and sister-in-law Mary Martin of Greenville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at Ashley Baptist Church near Belding. The family will greet visitors at the church for an hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. Interment is being planned in Rest Haven Memory Gardens. Those wishing to express their sympathy are welcomed to consider a contribution in Shirley's memory to Ashley Baptist Church.
