Ionia Sentinel Standard, 5 Nov 1982

John M. Martin, 85, of Jones Road, Route 1, Pewamo, died Nov. 3 as a result of
injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  Born May 16, 1897, he was the son
of Ferdinand and Catherine Schafer Martin.  A retired farmer, he was a member of
the Holy Name Society and St. Joseph Society of St. Mary’s Church, Westphalia.

He is survived by his wife, Alvina; four sons, Robert, Clifford, John and Dale,
all of Westphalia; five daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Simon, Mrs. Pauline George and
Mrs. Alice Becker, all of Fowler, Mrs. Eileen Schafer of Pewamo and Mrs.
Catherine Thelen of Westphalia.  Also surviving are a brother, Joseph, of
Westphalia and a sister, Mrs. Regina Hengesbach, also of Westphalia; 46
grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Rosary services will be Friday at 3 and 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Chapel, Westphalia.
 Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church, the Rev.
James Schmitt officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Arrangements
are by Neller Funeral Home.
