Jim Martin died at home in Ionia, Mich., on Oct. 16, 2014, with his wife Linda 
by his side and under the excellent care of The Ionia Area Hospice Staff and on-
call staff.  He was born Feb. 11, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jim had a zest for life and enjoyed collecting cars, old and new.  He owned 
Martin Sales & Service, where he repaired Commercial Landry Equipment.  He 
worked for over 15 years at Maurer Dry Cleaners in Lansing, Michigan, as well 
as for other companies.  He volunteered for The Ionia Area Hospice.  Jim liked 
helping people and keeping busy up until a couple of years ago, when he could 
no longer get around.

He and Linda loved riding their motorcycles on short trips.  His favorite 
vacation spot was visiting family in North Carolina and sight seeing in 
Florida.  Jim's beloved cats Inkie and Sassy were by his side daily during his 
illness.

Jim was a caring husband, father, step-father, grandfather who will be missed 
greatly by his wife Linda; son David (Amy) of Lowell; daughter, Sarah Martin of 
Detroit; stepdaughter, Kristina Barber Traster (Scott) of Ionia; Stepsons, 
Robert Ecker (Pam) of North Carolina; Hank Ecker, of Illinois; sister, Gwen 
Martin of Iowa; grandchildren, Cheyanne Martin, Jason Martin, Scottie Traster.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Oct. 25, 2014, at The First 
United Methodist Church in Ionia, Mich.  Memorial Contributions may be made to 
The Ionia Area Hospice, P.O. Box 124, Ionia MI 48846.
