She was baptized in the Presbyterian church, October 8, 1837, of which she was a member until she came to America, where she united with the Methodist church at Palo, where she was an active member until failing health prevented her attending. At the age of 23 years she was married to Robert Martin of the same place. They came to America in the year of 1872, where they resided a period of six months in Livingston county, Michigan, after which they moved to Ronald, Ionia, where they settled on and cleared the farm known as the Gilbert Yates farm, and where they resided for many years. After the death of her husband, April 14, 1904, she lived with her youngest son, William A. Martin, about sixteen years. Nearly 3 1/2 years ago she came to live with her son, Robert Martin, where she died July 11, 1923, aged 86 years, 1 month and 7 days. She was the mother of nine children, six sons and two daughters surviving her; namely, Robert, Eliza A., Thomas F., John J., Irwin, James K., Phoebe E. and William A. Martin. One son died at the age of four years. Although her death was not unexpected, as her health was frail and because of her many years, yet the sadness of the loss of a loving mother fell on the family and community who had been for years her neighbors and friends. She was a woman whom to know well was o respect and love, with a character of sterling integrity, unwavering in her adherence. Besides her sons and daughters, she leaves to mourn their loss, 36 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors. Dearest Mother, sweetly sleeping, Without thought of pain or care; Dearest Mother, how we miss thee, Miss thee in your old arm chair. Dearest Mother, we are lonely, Lonely since you went away, but we know if we are faithful We will meet you some glad day. Jesus, Saviour, died to save us From this life of sin and care: Soon He'll come in clouds of glory, Take us to our home up there. Dearest Mother, how we miss thee Since thy mortal life has fled, But again we hope to greet thee Where no parting word is said. Additional Comments: N.
