Martin, 83, of Portland, passed away Monday, April 14, 2003. He was born on October 2, 1919 in Detroit, the son of Norman and Gertrude (Fox) Martin. Mr. Martin was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #2168, and also a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold and Dennis Martin, sister-in-law Vi Martin; brother-in-law, David Simon. Surviving are his sisters, Betty (Roman) Martin of Grand Rapids, Janice Simon of Portland, and Mary Lou (Pete) Pline of Portland; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Martin of Lansing, and Lois Martin of Toledo, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles D. Hall, Pastor, at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a Scripture Wake Service held at 8 p.m. Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Father Flohe Foundation, American Cancer Society, or Hospice House of Mid Michigan, in memory of Donald Martin.
