Julius John Martin, 75, of Portland passed away May 4.

Mr. Martin was born in Westphalia on Sept. 15, 1926 the son of Nicholas and 
Hildegard (Gross) Martin. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, 
was a lifelong farmer and worked at TRW for 32 years. Julius enjoyed polka 
music, watching television and enjoyed all card games, especially euchre. He 
also had a special love for his grandchildren.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by grandson, Cory Martin, and brother, 
Reynold Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Julia Martin; children, Janet (Tim) 
Toman of Owosso, Stan (Jody) Martin of Clinton, MS, Carol Wood of Ionia, Mel 
(Jackie) Martin, Gary (Penny) Martin, Dave (Shelly) Martin, all of Portland, 
and Doris (Bob) Schafer of Eagle; 18 grandchildren; eight great-
grandchildren; brothers, Harold Martin of Portland, Eugene Martin of Fowler, 
Al (Laura) Martin of Ionia, and Donald (Norma) Martin of Dimondale; sisters, 
Bertha O'Connor of Belding, Theresa (Joe) Jarvis of Lansing, Germaine 
Spitzley of Detroit, and Mary Ann (Cliff) Fowler of Indiana. 

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. Charles D. Hall, 
Pastor, May 8 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rite of Committal 
following at Portland Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the 
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
