The Rev. Luther Martin, 63, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at his residence, 611 
Crescent street, Grand Rapids.  Born June 29, 1893 in Montcalm county, he is a 
son of Mrs. John J. Martin of Ionia and the late John J. Martin.  He was 
preceded in death by his father in 1937 and his sister, Pearl James in 1954.  
The Rev. Martin was a member of Wealthy Street Baptist church, where he was 
ordained in 1946.

Surviving are his wife, Doris and four daughters, Mrs. Marie DeGroot, the 
Misses Vivian, Doris and Bernice, five grandchildren, all of Grand Rapids; his 
mother, two brothers, Roy J. of Grandville and Jay of Ionia and two sisters, 
Mrs. Harlon Eggleston and Mrs. Richard Hogan of Ionia.

Prayer service will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock at the 
Eggebeen funeral chapel in Grand Rapids and funeral services will be held at 
the North Plains Union church, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30.  Dr. David Otis 
Fuller, pastor of Wealthy Street Baptist church will officiate.  Interment 
will be in North Plains cemetery.
