He was born February 28, 1922 in Ionia, the son of Joseph and Edith Carlsen Martin, and was married on November 23, 1946, to Elva Buxton. He was a former employee of Brown Corp. of Ionia and Mitchell-Bentley Corp. of Ionia. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and attended the Ionia Free Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife; four sons, the Rev. Joseph Martin of Mancelona, the Rev. David Martin of South Evart, Thomas of Ionia, and Charles of Pontiac; four daughters, Deborah Granger of Ionia, Barbara Kauffman of Ionia, Frances Preston of Muir, and Bonnie Hampton of Lyons; 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Larry Martin, of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Hyland of Ionia and Betty Jackson of Clarksville; and a stepmother, Catherine Martin of Ionia. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Roetman Funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Ionia. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial has been established in care of the funeral home.
