The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, February 8, 1994


Howard E. Martin, 82, of Ionia, died February 5, 1994 at the Ionia Manor.  He 
was born June 29, 1911, the son of John and Lulu (Austin) Martin of Ionia.  He 
attended Ionia public schools.  Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Army during 
WWII.  He married Norva Dickerson on June 15, 1940.  In 1976 he retired from 
Michigan Reformatory.  He and his father started the school bus system in 
Ionia and he also drove a taxi cab in Ionia.

Surviving are his wife, Norva; three sons, Robert Martin, Gayle Martin and Max 
Martin all of Ionia; two daughters, Teressa Martin of Ionia and Joan Martin of 
Gowen; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visitation was at the Main Street Chapel from 7 to 8:0 p.m. Monday.  Funeral 
and committal services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Mayers Memorial 
Chapel, Ionia,
with the Rev. Kendall Harger officiating.  The organist will be Mrs. Renate 
Conrad.  Interment will be in the spring at Balcom Cemetery.  Pallbearers will 
be Max Martin, Gayle Martin, Robert Martin, Tim Martin, Rob Martin and 
Lawrence Johnston.  Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer 
Society, Ionia Chapter.
