Lake Odessa Wave - March 6, 1947
          BURNS CAUSE DEATH OF CHILD TUESDAY
   Lee 2 year-old son of Mrs. and Mrs. Leo Martinez living north of town, died at
Pennock hospital Tuesday 
morning from burns suffered several hours earlier.
   Apparently a lighted kerosene lamp hanging near a window over the child's bed
ignited the curtains which 
probably fell upon the sleeping child setting fire to the bed clothing and causing
burns which later proved 
fatal.  The parents were unaware of the tragedy until the mother was awakened by the
child's screams, when 
she then smelled smoke.
   The little boy was brought to the office of Drs. M. A. Hoffs and R. E.
Michmrhuizen and then taken to 
Pennock where he died at 7 a.m. from second and third degree burns over the upper
two-thirds of his body.  
surviving besides the parents are three brothers and sisters.
  The Rev Fr. M. Donald Farrell will officiate at graveside services in Lakeside
cemetery Thursday.
