LAKE ODESSA- Mrs. Mamie E. Marvin, 85, a former resident of Clarksville, died 
in Barry County Medical Facility Thursday.

Born in Middleville, December 1, 1892, she was a daughter of William and Jennie 
(Gilson) McConnell.

After graduating from high school she attended summer college in Kalamazoo and 
received a teaching certificate then taught school for five years, including 
three years in the Clarksville area.

She married Clarence Marvin, on June 26, 1916, and the couple opened a hardware 
store in Lake Odessa in January 1942, and the moved to Lake Odessa from 
Clarksville in March of the same year where Mrs. Marvin was employed in the 
hardware for more than 23 years. 

She was active in church affairs as a member of the Congregational church in 
both Clarksville and Lake Odessa and served as President of the Women’s’ 
Fellowship clubs in both churches. 

Mrs. Marvin was a Past Novel Grand in the Rebekah Lodge, a past matron in the 
Order of Eastern Star (OES) and past president of the Ionia county associates 
of OES Past President’s club.

She was Past President of the Clarksville Women’s literary club and the County 
Federation of Womens Club.

Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Cecil (Virginia) Hunter of Russell, 
Kentucky; Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Ashley of Atlanta, Georgia; and Mrs. Jack 
(Hilda) Osgood of Hastings; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also 
surviving is one sister, Mrs. Howard (Lucille) Rittinger of Lowell.
